Mayfair, Marylebone, Baker street Area |
|
These districts covers such a vast tract of London, it is really difficult to include all of the amazing restaurants and shops but we will try to give you some highlights. Mayfair is situated set roughly between Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly and Park Lane and is at the very heart of the Capital. Marylebone and Baker Street is the area to the North of Oxford Street, being only ten minutes walk to the High Street from Bond Street station via pedestrian roads of St Christophers Place (use the hidden alleyway to the left of the H&M store). Marylebone High Street is not as brassy as Oxford street and offers a more boutique style high street. St Christophers Place is a small pedestrianized oasis just off Oxford street, and has an enclave of serviced apartments, shops and restaurants. There are also a stretch of Italian restaurants. Shopping Shepherd's Market, Mayfair, London W1J 4PH Cute market with cobbled stone floors. There are old style English pubs, boutique shops and restaurants. Oxford Street Possibly the most famous high street in England, Oxford street is very busy so be prepared to elbow your way through. All of the best high street shops are here, but my favourite is the forever creative Selfridges. Selfridges is a compendium of luxury clothes, accessories and a food hall to linger in. Bond Street Armani, Ralph Lauren, Mulberry are amongst some of the luxury brand names in Bond street. Marylebone High street Off the hustle and bustle of Oxford street, the high street hosts some really unique and boutique style shops like the Ginger Pig, an old style butcher only offering the best meat. The sausage rolls made on site are scrumptious. There is also a beautiful travel book shop. St Christophers Place, just of Oxford street near Selfridges (near Bond street station) Carluccio's Italian Restaurants, Ristorenta Sirena: a family run Italian restaurant of 27 years standing. Authentic Italian cuisine - specializing in seafood. All food cooked freshly to order. Outside seating area with heating for your comfort. Tourist Sites Hyde Park The most famous also one of the largest park in London, it is a magnet for all travellers. The park extends from Knightsbridge, all the way to Bayswater, with the Italian Garden entrance from Lancaster Gate. Every different entrance points show a different facet of Hyde Park's many features and characteristics. Regents Park Elegant park just off Baker Street. Less tourist oriented, more stylish than Hyde Park. Sherlock Holmes Museum in Baker Street Madame Tussauds, Baker Street The Planetarium, Baker Street Restaurants & Bars/Pubs Maze, 10-13 Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, London W1K 6JP One of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants and ran by one of his protégé, Jason Atherton. Definitely one of Ramsey's best venture, Maze is relaxed, modern and innovative with its choice of around 20 tasting dishes. The ingredients are bold and combined in an eye catching manner, also exciting to the palate. Some dishes to taste are braised shin of veal with pumpkin risotto and kidney powder, to slow-cooked quail marinated in foie gras with peach purée & ale-vinegar reduction. The seasonally changing menus and a chef?s table banish the threat of boredom. China Tang at The Dorchester, 53 Park Lane, Mayfair, London W1K 1QA Upmarket Chinese restaurant set in the refined setting of The Dorchester. The style is sexy with plush carpets, art deco décor takes you back to 40s Shanghai. From the lunchtime dim sum menu you can choose from Shanghai pork dumplings, roast duck pancakes, steamed black cod, and chocolate fondant. Seashell of Lisson Grove, 49-51 Lisson Grove, London NW1 6UH Best fish and chips restaurant in central London. It is worth a visit as there are not many quality fish and chips restaurant in London anymore, only dingy take aways. The fish are battered beautifully to a crisp with the moist fish white flesh inside. The chips are not puny sized, but chunky and crispy as well. A real taste of London. Nearest station is Marylebone station, and then it is only 5 minutes walk from there. Winter Garden at The Landmark London Hotel, 222 Marylebone Road, London NW1 6LJ Afternoon Tea daily, or a Sunday Brunch in the stunning Atrium of this five star hotel is really something to tell your family about. The English of afternoon tea is well presented here with scones, finger sandwiches, Darjeeling tea and much more. Marylebone Station just opposite hotel. La Fromagerie, 2-6 Moxon Street, Marylebone, London W1U 4EW Patricia and Danny Michelson opened the Moxon Street just off Marylebone High Street W1 in November 2002 and it has been a rip roaring success. This shop is for serious cheese lovers, and highly recommended if you are a connoisseur of cheese. The shop feature cheese maturing cellars with on-site affinage and a walk in cheese room. The onsite kitchen produce homemade jams and chutneys, biscuits and cakes along with a daily changing kitchen menu of salads, soups and other seasonal dishes for you to take away or enjoy in our the tasting café. Really popular so be prepared to wait for a seat, as there is no booking system.
